OUR WHY

Brandon Matthews, professional golfer on the PGA Tour was born and raised in Northeast Pennsylvania. As he has been able to advance through his career, he has always held the area of Northeastern Pennsylvania (NEPA) close to his heart and has always had the desire to give back to the area as much as possible. The area has shaped him throughout his life and has made him who he is today, to which he is incredibly grateful. The NEPA Invitational was born as the beginning of Brandon being able to give back.

In 2021, the area recently lost one of the greatest supporters of junior golf that we have ever had the pleasure of meeting in William Lawler. Mr. Lawler played countless rounds of golf with Brandon, giving him guidance during his early years. You would always be able to find him walking 9 holes on a summer afternoon at Fox Hill Country Club with whoever wanted to join. Our area has had very few people that have impacted the game in a more positive way. We are incredibly proud to have created The Lawler Scholarship Fund to benefit deserving junior golfers in NEPA. Additionally, we have partnered with the Scranton Area Community Foundation to go beyond golf and help local charitable organizations in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

We are incredibly proud to be hosting the NEPA Invitational for the second year that brings incredible talent to the area to compete in this event as we continue longstanding tradition for many years to come.

The NEPA Invitational is a Pro-Am that will showcase the Country Club of Scranton at its best and will host incredible professionals along with high level amateurs and golf aficionados. Spectators are welcomed and encouraged.
